The principle of operation of a DC motor A motor is a device used to convert electric energy into mechanical energy. A DC motor operates on the principle of repulsion and attraction of magnetism. They use the same types of armature windings and field windings as the generators. A power supply connected to the armature causes it to turn. Hence, despite having a similar construction to that of a generator, they perform a function opposite to that of a generator.
