Concept explainers
To state:
The definition of the term chromosome.
Introduction:
In the nucleus of every animal and plant cells, a network of a thread-like structure is present, called chromatin fibers. the chromatin threads on condensation form chromosomes.
Explanation of Solution
Chromosomes were first discovered by Strasburger(1815) and the term ‘chromosome’ was named by Waldeyer (1888). Chromosomes are thread-like structures located inside the nucleus of animal and plant cells. Each chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). DNA is the genetic material that is copied and passed from generation to generation of cells or from parents to offspring.
Chromosomes are cell structure that carries genetic material which is copied and passed from generation to generation of cells.
