Whether the plane of polarization of a polarizing
Answer to Problem 1ASA
The plane of polarization for a polymer sheet is perpendicular to the plane of orientation of a molecular chain.
Explanation of Solution
Draw a diagram to show the direction of the plane of polarization of a polymer sheet with the direction the polarization plane in a molecular chain.
The electric field that are perpendicular to the chain of molecules are not absorbed because they have no way of causing the molecules to oscillate. So polarized light is being observed for this direction.
The electric field that are parallel to the direction of the chain molecules causes the molecules to oscillate, and energy is transferred so they are absorbed. So polarization light can not be observed.
Conclusion:
Thus, the plane of polarization for a polymer sheet is perpendicular to the plane of orientation of a molecular chain.
