More power is produced by an engine when more air and fuel is taken to the engine during the intake stroke. The intake stroke duration must be optimum to great better results. If the lift, duration and overlap is excessive, the performance will be affected and the fuel economy will be hurt. Hence, the lobe displacement angle of the camshaft that governs the duration of the intake stroke plays a major part in determining the power characteristics of the engine.
