In the tissues where the cells are present in proximity to each other, the cell-adhesion molecules provide certain tissue cohesion as they combine the nearby cells with each other. However, some of the cells within the given kinds of tissues are directly associated via one of the three kinds of unique cell junctions, that is, the tight junctions, desmosomes, or the gap junctions.
