Steps in balancing the information
- Step 1: Write the unbalanced equation
- Step 2: Find the coefficient to balance the equation.
- The coefficient should be reduced to the smallest whole number.
Precipitation reaction: The formation of the product is insoluble when the ions combine in the solution is called precipitation reaction.
Acid - base reaction: Formation of the salt from the cation from the base and anion from the acid and formation of water is also the product.
Gas forming reaction: The reaction of acid and metal carbonates which produce carbonic acid. The carbonic acid decomposes which gives water and carbon dioxide.
Most of the ionic compounds are soluble in water, very few of the ionic compounds are sparingly soluble, and some of the ionic compounds are insoluble in water. When it is soluble in water ions gets separated in the solution.

- What is the molarity of a solution of sodium hydrogen sulfate that is prepared by dissolving 9.21 g NaHSO4 in enough water to form 2.00-L solution? What is the molarity of each ion in the solution?arrow_forwardA sample of limestone weighing 1.005 g is dissolved in 75.00 mL of 0.2500 M hydrochloric acid. The following reaction occurs: CaCO3(s)+2 H+(aq)Ca2+(aq)+CO2(g)+H2O It is found that 19.26 mL of 0.150 M NaOH is required to titrate the excess HCI left after reaction with the limestone. What is the mass percent of CaCO3 in the limestone?arrow_forwardIron forms a sulfide with the approximate formula Fe7S8. Assume that the oxidation state of sulfur is 2 and that iron atoms exist in both +2 and +3 oxidation states. What is the ratio of Fe(II) atoms to Fe(III) atoms in this compound?arrow_forward
- 1. Sometimes a reaction can fall in more than one category. Into what category (or categories) does the reaction of Ba(OH)2(aq) + H+PO4(aq) fit? acid-base and oxidation-reduction oxidation-reduction acid-base and precipitation precipitationarrow_forwardOne of the ways to remove nitrogen monoxide gas, a serious source of air pollution, from smokestack emissions is by reaction with ammonia gas, NH3. The products of the reaction, N2 and H2O, are not toxic. Write the balanced equation for this reaction. Assign an oxidation number to each element in the reactants and products, and indicate which element is oxidized and which is reduced.arrow_forwardWrite a balanced equation for (a) the combustion (reaction with oxygen gas) of glucose, C6H12O6, to give carbon dioxide and water. (b) the reaction between xenon tetrafluoride gas and water to give xenon, oxygen, and hydrogen fluoride gases. (c) the reaction between aluminum and iron(III) oxide to give aluminum oxide and iron. (d) the formation of ammonia gas from its elements. (e) the reaction between sodium chloride, sulfur dioxide gas, steam, and oxygen to give sodium sulfate and hydrogen chloride gas.arrow_forward
- A 1.345-g sample of a compound of barium and oxygen was dissolved in hydrochloric acid to give a solution of barium ion, which was then precipitated with an excess of potassium chromate to give 2.012 g of barium chromate, BaCrO4. What is the formula of the compound?arrow_forward4.22 Generally, an excess of O2 is needed for the reaction Sn+O2SnO2 . What is the minimum number of moles of oxygen required to oxidize 7.3 moles of tin?arrow_forwardWrite balanced chemical equations for the following reactions: (a) zinc metal heated in a stream of oxygen gas (b) zinc carbonate heated until loss of mass stops (c) zinc carbonate added to a solution 0f acetic acid, CH3CO2H (d) zinc added to a solution of hydro-bromic acidarrow_forward
- Ten mL of concentrated H3PO4 (91.7% by mass, d=1.69g/mL) was accidentally poured into a beaker containing 20.0 g of NaOH. Not all the NaOH was consumed. How many grams of NaOH were left unreacted? The equation for the reaction is H3PO4(aq)+3OH(aq)3H2O+PO43(aq)arrow_forwardGold metal will dissolve only in aqua regia, a mixture of concentrated hydrochloric acid and concentrated nitric acid in a 3:1 volume ratio. The products of the reaction between gold and the concentrated acids are AuCl4-(aq), NO(g), and H2O. The equation for this reaction where HNO3 and HCl are strong acids is Au(s)+4Cl(aq)+4H+(aq)+NO3(aq)AuCl4(aq)+NO(g)+2H2O(a) What stoichiometric ratio of hydrochloric acid to nitric acid should be used? (b) What volumes of 12 M HCl and 16 M are HNO3 required to furnish the Cl- and NO3- ions to react with 25.0 g of gold?arrow_forwardwould a percipitation reaction occur between CuSO4 and Pb(NO3)2?arrow_forward
