Gas exchange portion of the respiratory system is that portion where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place.

Introduction:

Oxygen is carried into lungs and to alveoli by the process of inhalation which is taken by blood to the cells to carry metabolic functions. The waste carbon dioxide is again carried by blood from the cells to the alveoli and finally outside the body with the process of exhalation.
