Transportation—-Shipping A major coffee supplier has warehouses in Seattle and San José. The coffee supplier receives orders from coffee retailers in Salt Lake City and Reno. The retailer in Salt Lake City needs 400 pounds of coffee, and the retailer in Reno needs 350 pounds of coffee. The Seattle warehouse has 700 pounds available, and the warehouse in San José has 500 pounds available. The cost of shipping from Seattle to Salt Lake City is $2.50 per pound, from Seattle to Reno $3.50 per pound, from San José to Salt Lake City $2 per pound, and from San José to Reno $2.50 per pound. - Parent Volunteer Laurie was completing the treasurer’s report for her son’s Boy Scout troop at the end of the school year. She didn’t remember how many boys had paid the $24 full-year registration fee and how many had paid a $16 partial-year fee. She knew that the number of boys who paid for a full-year was ten more than the number who paid for a partial-year. If $400 was collected for all the registrations, how many boys had paid the full-year fee and how many had paid the partial-year fee?arrow_forwardA local band sells out for their concert. They sell all 1,175 tickets for a total purse of $28,112.50. The tickets were priced at $20 for student tickets, $22.50 for children, and $29 for adult tickets. If the band sold twice as many adult as children tickets, how many of each type was sold?arrow_forwardDiet Program Nicole started a new diet that requires each meal to have 460 calories, 6 g of fiber, and 11 g of fat. - Translate to a system of equations and solve: Anatole needs to make 250 milliliters of a 25% solution of hydrochloric acid for a lab experiment. The lab only has a 10% solution and a 40% solution in the storeroom. How much of the 10% and how much of the 40% solutions should he mix to make the 25% solution?arrow_forwardSales Commissions A saleswoman works at a kiosk that offers three different models of cell phones: standard with 16 GB capacity, deluxe with 32 GB capacity, and super deluxe with 64 GB capacity. For each phone that she sells, she earns a commission based on the cell phone model. One week she sells 9 standard, 11 deluxe, and 8 super-deluxe and makes $740 in commission. The next week she sells 13 standard, 15 deluxe, and 16 super-deluxe for a $1204 commission. The third week she sells 8 standard, 7 deluxe, and 14 super-deluxe, earning $828 in commission. (a) Let x, y, and z represent the commission she earns on standard, deluxe, and super-deluxe, respectively. Translate the given information into a system of equations in x, y, and z. (b) Express the system of equations you found in part (a) as a matrix equation of the form AX=B . (c) Find the inverse of the coefficient matrix A and use it to solve the matrix equation in part (b). How much commission does the saleswoman earn on each model of cell phone?arrow_forwardTranslate to a system of equations and solve: A science center sold 1,363 tickets on a busy weekend.
