Concept explainers
The CASE OF THE TUMBLED TOWER* Dwayne got up at 6:00 A.M. and was watching the sunrise from his bedroom window. After the sun came up, he started working on his toothpick tower in his room. The tower was very fragile. While he was working on his tower, his little brother came into the room to bug him. Dwayne’s brother wanted to be more like Dwayne and he wanted to build something out of toothpicks, too. He was very jealous of Dwayne.
In the afternoon, Dwayne went out to buy candy at the candy store and he left his little brother home (even though he was supposed to be babysitting). On his way out of the house, he heard on the radio that there was going to be a slight westerly wind coming. He then left the house, forgetting that he had left his bedroom window open. When he returned and saw that he had left the window open, he thought that the wind had blown the tower over. But then he remembered something and said that his little brother must have knocked over the tower. What did he remember?
