Introduction:
There are some important elements essential for the growth and development of plants. Plants must absorb these nutrients from the growth medium. These are classified as macronutrients (calcium, carbon, hydrogen, magnesium, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, potassium as well as sulfur) and micronutrients or trace minerals (boron, manganese, chlorine, copper, iron, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc). These plant nutrients are present in the soil in the form of salts, and plants absorb these nutrients in the form of ions. The macronutrients get absorbed in larger quantities as they contribute to almost

- Which statement is true regarding plants and soil nutrition? a. Potassium is a critical mineral for plants because it is a component of ATP b. Soil plays an important role in filtering pollutants c. only macronutrients are essential for plant growth d. stunting is yellowing of tissue due to mineral difficiency e. Organic matter is the least abundant component of soilarrow_forwardWhich of the following statements are true? If false, correct them:(a) Boron deficiency leads to stout axis.(b) Every mineral element that is present in a cell is needed by the cell.(c) Nitrogen as a nutrient element, is highly immobile in the plants.(d) It is very easy to establish the essentiality of micronutrients because theyare required only in trace quantities.arrow_forwardOutline the function and deficiency disease of plant Nutrientsarrow_forward
- For an element to be regarded as essential, all of the following criteria must be met, except: a. No other element can perform the function. b. The element is directly involved in plant nutrition. c. The element is inorganic. d. The plant cannot complete its lifecycle without the element.arrow_forwardCompare and contrast the nutrient procurement and processing in plants and animals. a.) - You are shopping for fertilizer for your new tomato plants in your garden. You have a choice between a name-brand fertilizer and a generic-brand fertilizer, which are both in liquid form. The labels indicate that they are identical in composition (the type of nutrients and their amount per unit volume of fertilizer are identical). The name-brand fertilizer advertises that it is superior to any other fertilizer on the market. To test the claims of the two fertilizers you decide to buy one bottle of each and treat equal numbers of "Big Boy" tomato plants (a single type of tomato that goes great with salads) with the same amount of each fertilizer for the entire growing season. Using the information from the paragraph above, which of the following is an example of a controlled variable in your experiment? A) growing the same type of tomato plant B) using the same amount of fertilizers C) using 2 different fertilizers D) growing the same type of tomato plant and using the same amount of…arrow_forwardA mineral deficiency is likely to affect older leaves more thanyounger leaves if(A) the mineral is a micronutrient.(B) the mineral is very mobile within the plant.(C) the mineral is required for chlorophyll synthesis.(D) the mineral is a macronutrient.arrow_forwardIf an element increases the growth rate of a plant, can it be defined as an essential element?arrow_forward
