Chapter 36, Problem 3MCQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Foraging is the process of movement of animals for the process of finding of food from one place to another. Every organism needs food and water for its proper growth and its survival. There is a theory called the optimal foraging theory. This theory basically tells that the reason why an animal sticks to have only few types of foods only.

In the graph, the number of days are 18.. 1 day is equal to 60 sec. days are taken on x-axis. The mean foraging times are taken on y-axis.
In the Amazon forest you discover a very brightly colored caterpillar. The local people tell you it is good to eat but fairly rare. You try it and it is delicious. What would you expect to find in the same area?
Group of answer choices
a. lots of other caterpillars that taste even better
b. a restaurant that makes caterpillar tacos
c. another animal that protects the caterpillars

You gather the data in the graph below on the effort bison invest (gray bars, left hand Y-axis) in obtaining different types of grass (X-axis) and the energy content in calories of the grasses (white bars, right hand Y-axis). - Beavers are nocturnal and therefore, eat mainly during the night. Beavers normally eat the bark of trees, leaves, twigs, lily roots and the buds of deciduous trees. How do the claws of the beaver help it to compete for its food? A) The beaver's claws help it to dig holes to search for animals hiding underground. B) The beaver's claws help it to hide its face when predators are near. C) The beaver's claws help it to feel for food in the grass in the darkness of the night. D) The beaver's claws help it to climb high into trees to obtain its food.arrow_forwardWhat is the realistic possibility that a grass-fed cow is a mad cow? Both types of feed are made of the same grains, but come in two forms - pellets and crumbles. Pellets are the standard feed you have been using, but you believe crumbles will be digested more efficiently, and result in chickens laying more eggs. You set up an experiment. In your experiment you keep all other factors, such as the number of chickens per pen, the age of the chickens, the amount of food and water, and the type of chicken (all are Rhode Island Reds) the same. The chickens in Pen A are given pellets, and the chickens in Pen B are given crumbles. a. What is your hypothesis? b. What is your prediction? c. He wants to design an experiment to determine the relationship between cinnamon and ants. What is the best testable research question for Colton's experiment? A. How does the number of ants entering a home change throughout the day? B. What spices affect ants? C. Do ants like cinnamon? D. Which of the following is the most accurate statement about optimal diet breadth as resource quality, handling time and distribution changes? As handling time increases, animals should specialize As the distance between resources increases, animals should generalize As the energy content of the resources increases, animals should generalize As the distance between patches increases, animals should stay longer in a patch The following diagrams show four distribution patterns of resources. Each circle represents one unit of a resource, say, a food item. For which of these distributions would the Marginal Value Theorem be useful for making predictions about optimal foraging behavior.
