Chapter 36, Problem 3Q
Summary Introduction

To review:

The comparison of the results of phy CD, phy AD, and phy ACD and how it relates to the necessity of phyC and phyA genes in determining leaf area in Arabidopsis.

Given:

It has been given in the experiment results that phy CD, phy AD, and phy ACD show similar leaf area in Arabidopsis.

Introduction:

Leaf area in Arabidopsis is determined by a number of phytochrome genes. These genes either function in synergy or can be overlapping in their function. Phytochromes are special receptors which detect light and get transformed into an active state. This active state then induces a signaling cascade that affects the development of plants such as determining the leaf area.
