Consider that the starting current of the motor is reduced by the use of two methods that are resistor starting and reactor starting.
In case of starting method the resistor is connected in series with the motor to reduce the motor accelerating torque as the current is determined by the total circuit impedance, the motor voltage during the accelerating depends upon the relative reactor and the motor impedance.
Thus, the two components are the resistors ad the reactor.
