The reason due to which plants become dormant in response to a particular environment.

Introduction:

Even in the presence of plentiful water, bright sunlight, and moderate temperature, the growth of plants is slowed down in autumn. The condition, during which plant growth is slowed down is called dormancy. The buds of flowering plants resume growth only during spring. During dormancy, the metabolic rate of plants is slowed down by inactivation of certain enzymes that are required for growth. On exposure to adaptive photoperiodism, the plants regain flowering ability.
