The mechanism of action, indications, cautions, contraindications, routes of administration, and drug interactions, for the sulfonamides, penicillins, cephalosporins, macrolides and tetracyclines.
Concept introduction:
The antibiotic penicillin were the first antibiotics used against numerous bacterial infections. Cephalosporins are beta lactam antibiotic with bactericidal activity. This group contains five generations of antibiotics. Sulfonamides are sulfur-containing antibiotics. Macrolides are a group of natural products (polyketide) that contains macro cyclic lactone rings. Tetracyclines are antibiotics having the same general structure that is derived from teracene, numerous hydroxyl groups, and other groups.
