Chapter 38.4, Problem 3MC
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The unique roles that bacteria and archaea play in the nitrogen cycle.

Concept Introduction:

Organisms and their environment interact with one another for recycling of elements such as water, carbon, phosphorous and nitrogen, it is termed as biogeochemical cycles. Nitrogen is an element which is present in multiple reservoirs. Nitrogen is present in the atmosphere as N2 or oxide. It can be dissolved in the ocean and the soil contains nitrogen ions. Nitrogen cycle is a process of nitrogen fixation in which conversion of N2 into ammonium ions (NH4+) is performed by many archaea and bacteria.
