Summary Introduction

To determine:

The reason for the decline in population of insects and birds when the plant mistletoe is available and not available in any forest.

Concept introduction:

In this, a parasitic plant was removed from a forest. Due to the removal of parasitic plant population of insect and birds decreases. Mistletoe is the hemi-parasitic plant which lives on other trees or shrubs. They grow on a wide range of host tree some of these host tree experience the side effect like stunting and loss of branches. Mistletoe plant also has green leaves, these green leaves acts as food for some bacteria.

In a tropical rainforest, an open gap lacking vegetation has been created by the fall of a large tree. Which of the following statements describes the characteristics of the plant species that are last to colonize this disturbed habitat?     a. they have low reproductive rates and are good competitors b. they are good colonizers c. they have high reproductive rates and are poor competitors d. they are dominated by r-selected species e. they have high species diversity
Imagine that you were trying to set up some protected areas to save alpine meadow communities. What may determine the number of species maintained in each meadow in light of what you know about island biogeography? Would you expect the species compsotion to change in your meadows parks over time and why? This relates to the equillibrium theory of island biogeography.
Using island biogeography theory, on which island would you expect to find a greater number of species   A small island of a large island (both, the same distance from the mainland)? A 5km squared island from the mainland, or a 5 km squared island closer to the mainland
