A framework organized for purpose and concepts designed to direct the practice of nursing is referred to as a nursing theory. A nursing theory plays an important role in providing principles assist to develop further knowledge of nursing. It also helps the health care provider to understand their role in healthcare services.
The nursing theory is vital to nursing practice, because it contributes to nursing knowledge, predicts the behavioral activity of the patient, guides the nursing practice, and describes the relationship among concepts. The theories are classified into five types, based on their goals and abstractions. This includes grand theory, shared theory, middle-range theory, practice theory, descriptive theory, and prescriptive theory.
