Expert Solution & Answer
Chapter 4, Problem 1E
Program Description Answer
The given statement “the truth tables and logic diagrams stand equally powerful in expressing the processing of gates and circuits” is “True”.
Hence, the correct option is “A”.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Gates and circuits:
- A gate is a device which is used to perform the basic operation by accepting one or more inputs and produces the single output.
- The circuit is a combination of the gates to achieve a specific task.
- There are three different methods to express the processing of gates and circuits. They are,
- Boolean expression
- Logic diagrams
- Truth tables
- The Boolean expression is a mathematical notation to express the function.
- For example: Boolean expression for the NOT gate.
- The logic diagram is a graphical representation of the circuits to express the function.
- For example: Logic diagram for the NOT gate takes a single input and generates a single output.
- The truth table is a table containing all possible inputs and the corresponding output values.
- For example: Truth table for the NOT gate.
A | |
0 | 1 |
1 | 0 |
- The above three types are just different ways of representing the same process.
- Hence, the logic diagrams and truth tables are equally powerful notational methods for describing the behavior of gates and circuits.
