Sherlock Holmes, the greatest fictional detective of all time, is talking to a woman in her late 40s, when he suddenly says, “I see, my dear madam, you must have enjoyed your cigarettes and your suntans." The woman is amazed, because she mentioned nothing about these two former favorite activities. What physical characteristics might Mr. Holmes have seen in this woman to indicate she was an avid sun-worshiper and cigarette smoker? How do these characteristics develop?
