Chapter 4, Problem 4.5P
An indoor tennis facility finds that it has excessive electrical charges for air conditioning the courts to a temperature that is comfortable for its players (68 F or 20 C). Overhead fans will increase the average air velocity at court level from zero to 100 fpm (0.50 m/s). Vhat new thermostat setting will give approximately the same comfort as before fan operation? Assume that the mean radiant temperature is the same as the air temperature.

Hello Sir,Good Morning.I have a question in my homework related thermodynamics lesson. The following below is my question. Please advice. Thank you.
Regards,Irfan
An air conditioning system is used to keep the house at 65°F when the outside temperature is 85°F. The house gets heat through the walls and windows at a rate of 810 Btu/min, and the rate of heat generation inside the house from occupants, lights, and equipment is 120 Btu/min. Determine the minimum power input required for this air conditioning system.
11. Five large hotels in Miami, USA, use their own air-conditioning units, which
have a c.o.p. 3.1. It is proposed that the cooling systems of the five hotels be
substituted with a larger, modern unit that would have a c.o.p. 3.7. The total
installed capacity of the five hotels is 2,600 tons of air-conditioning and the
current systems are in use for 3,200 hours every year. Determine: a) the annual
energy savings from this substitution and b) the annual avoidance of CO₂
emissions if, currently, 72% of the electric energy in the Miami area is
obtained from coal power plants and 28% from nuclear power plants.
A 1-ton HVAC unit will remove up to 12,000 Btu/h. What size unit is neededfor a house with a heat load of 28,576 Btu/h? (Round up to the next highereither half or whole number.)
