Interpretation:
The number of protons and neutrons in the given isotope is to be determined.
Concept introduction:
The smallest unit of an element is called an atom.
The atoms are composed of three basic constituents which are electrons, protons and neutrons.
Electrons carry a negative charge and protons carry an equally positive charge.
Neutrons do not possess any kind of charge. Hence, an atom is generally neutral.
The number of protons is equal to the lower left of the isotope.
The number of neutrons is equal to the subtraction of the lower left number of isotopes from the upper left number of the isotope.
