Introduction:
The gap junctions are intercellular junctions that join the cytoplasm of adjacent cells to allow the free passage of ions and molecules. In the region of these junctions, the plasma membrane of adjacent cells are closely apposed together and cytoplasm is connected through cylindrical pores composed of connexin protein.
