Concept explainers
To determine:
Definition of the term ‘population’.
Introduction:
Our earth consists of the living organisms (all the populations) and the non-living organism in an area which commonly known as ecosystem. There is vast varieties of different species which collectively make life possible on this planet as they are interdependent to each other.
Explanation of Solution
The population is a grouping of similar individuals in a particular geographical area or space. The 'population' is defined as a group of openly interbreeding individuals of the same species present in a specific area at a given time. When one says that the population of a city is 1 lakh, it means that there are 1 lakh individuals of Homo sapiens sapiens (a species) in that town.
