Question
Chapter 4.2, Problem 5LTS
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The systematic name of the given compound should be provided.
Concept Introduction:
Nomenclature of organic compounds:
The naming of the organic compound are given by IUPAC (International Union for pure and applied chemistry). In the IUPAC names consist of certain rules for giving chemical names they are,
- In the bicyclic compounds first identify the total number of the carbon atoms present in the ring then the ring size and bridgeheads are identified.
- The numberings are starts with biggest ring side and ends with smallest ring side.
- The names are starts with bicyclo and followed by numbering like longest numbered bridgeheads then lowest numbering bridgeheads.
- The total number of the carbon atoms present in the ring should be write with end of the name, this name is a parent name of the compound.
- The substituents are named by its position number followed by alphabetically.
- Finally to write the substituent name followed by parent name to give a systematic name of the bicyclic compound.
To provide the systematic name of given compound.
