The reason behind the movement of most of the substances across the simple epithelia by transcellular transport.
Introduction:
Simple epithelia bear only a single layer of cells. This tissue lines those surfaces that are involved in diffusion and transport. These cells are very thin that aid in transport quite well. For a substance to cross the epithelium, it must be transported across the plasma membranes of the cells by the membrane transporters.
