Summary Introduction

To explain: How surface-area-to-volume ratio constrains cell size.

Introduction: The internal volume and cell membrane of a cell enlarge, as a cell grows bigger. Unfortunately, the volume of the cell increase rapidly compared to the surface area. Hence, the relative amount of surface area available to pass materials to a unit volume of the cell steadily decreases.
