Cancer cells are characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells, invasion, and metastasis. Cancer cells lack the differentiation and maturation into the specialized cells. The drugs that are used to treat cancer are generally known as chemotherapeutic drugs or antineoplastic drugs. Bone marrow suppression is also known as myelosuppression. It is one of the severe adverse effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The anticancer drugs destroy the rapidly dividing cells (cancer cells) that include white blood cells (WBCs), red blood cells (RBCs), and platelets in the bone marrow. Myelosuppression results in thrombocytopenia, anemia, and leukopenia.
