BISECTION METHOD
The 50-Ib cylinder is attached to a cord which passes over the drum. If the coefficient of static friction at the drum
is Ms = 0.3, determine the maximum vertical force P that
can be applied to the roller when 0 = 30° without causing the cylinder to move.
The shaft has a square-threaded screw with a lead of 8 mm and a mean radius of 15 mm.
If it is in contact with a plate gear having a mean radius of 30 mm, determine the resisting torque M on the plate gear which can be overcome if a torque of 7 N⋅m is applied to the shaft.
