In karate, why is a short time for the applied force advantageous?
The reason of short time for the applied force in karate being advantageous.
Answer to Problem 10RQ
The reason of short time for the applied force in karate being advantageous is that it increases the amount of force, resulting into greater injury to opponent.
Explanation of Solution
When a karate player delivers karate hit, the hand of the player moves fast and makes contact with the opponent’s body for a short period of time. The momentum of the hand becomes zero. The change in momentum is termed as the impulse, which can also be expressed by the product of force exerted and time interval for which force was exerted. When the force is exerted by the body is more, and it remains in contact for a longer time interval, the change in momentum will also be greater. As the change in momentum is the same, so greater force will be exerted by the karate player when hit remains in contact for a short time period. This will result in more injury to the opponent player.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the reason of short time for the applied force in karate being advantageous is that it increases the amount of force, resulting into greater injury to opponent.
