Expert Solution & Answer
Chapter 5, Problem 5.26RQ
Explanation of Solution
Associative entity:
Associative entity is a used in entity-relationship theory and also in relational
- An entity placed between two entities which has a relationship with these entities.
- Each entity has a “one” connection and the associative entity has “many” connection on each side.
Association entity:
The relationship between two entities is called as association. A pattern of two or more entities are associated to each other by an associative entity.
- The user can turn a many-to-many relationship into an association relationship by including a non-key column to the intersection table.
Example:
Consider an example of association relationship is as follows:
- “Book” and “Author” relationship in N:M is by simply adding a non-key column to the “Intersection_Table”.
- The column name “Book_price” is added to the “Intersection_Table”...

What is an associative entity (also called an association entity)? What is an association relationship? Give an example of an association relationship other than one shown in this text. Illustrate your answer using an IE Crow’s Foot E-R diagram.
Entity-relationship diagrams have a specific function, which is explained below. And what kind of symbol is utilised to represent a relationship, and how does it function? In what way does the word "associative entity" convey that something is happening and what does it mean? Could you provide an example?
What is the purpose of entity-relationship diagrams? What sort of symbol is used to depict a connection, and how does it work? What exactly does the phrase "associative entity" imply and what does it mean? Give an example.
