Concept Introduction:
The amount of energy required to remove one or more electrons from neutral atom to form a positively charged species is called ionization energy. The ionization energy of an atom depends on the stability of that atom. There is a general trend regarding ionization energy. On proceeding towards right in a period, the ionization energy increases. On proceeding down a group, the ionization energy decreases.
