The dimensions of a jib crane, which is manufactured by the Basick Co., are given in the figure. If the crane has a mass of 800 kg and a center of mass at G, and the maximum rated force at its end is F = 15 kN, determine the reactions at its bearings. The bearing at A is a journal bearing and supports only a horizontal force, whereas the bearing at B is a thrust bearing that supports both horizontal and vertical components.

- The two uniform cylinders, each of weight W, are resting against inclined surfaces. Neglecting friction, draw the free-body diagrams for each cylinder and for the two cylinders together. Count the total number of unknowns and the total number of independent equilibrium equations.arrow_forwardThe 40-kghomogeneous disk is placed on a frictionless inclined surface and held in equilibrium by the horizontal force P and a couple C (C is not shown on the figure). Find P and C.arrow_forwardFor Probs. 4.61–4.68, (a) draw the free-body diagrams for the entire assembly (or structure) and each of its parts. Neglect friction and the weights of the members unless specified otherwise. Be sure to indicate all relevant dimensions. For each problem, (b) determine the total number of unknown forces and the total number of independent equilibrium equations.arrow_forward
- The homogeneous 240-lb bar is supported by a rough horizontal surface at A, a smooth vertical surface at B, and the cable BC. Draw the FBD of the bar and count the unknowns.arrow_forwardThe 60-lb homogeneous door is supported by hinges at A and B, with only the hinge at B being capable of providing axial thrust. The cable CD prevents the door from fully opening when it is pulled by the 40-lb force acting perpendicular to the door. Draw the FBD for the door, and count the unknowns.arrow_forwardThe cylinders in the figure are at rest and have the indicated weights of 500 lbs and 250 lbs respectively and dimensions. Assuming smooth contact surfaces, determine the reactions at A, B,C and D on the cylinders. The width of the enclosure is 7.6 ft.arrow_forward
- please is urgent The 7.8m steel I-beam has a mass of 800kg and is lifted into position by applying a force P on the trolley to which the lower end B is secured. Cable AC is tied center of the beam and is horizontal when B is exactly below C. Determine, in function of x, the force P needed to maintain equilibrium from x=0 to the value of x at which A' lies exactly below C. Find the maximum value of P and the corresponding value of x.arrow_forwardThe system in the figure is in equilibrium. If the bar is of length L, of mass M = 8Kg and the mass m is m = 10Kg and AB = L / 3 determine: a) The tension T1 b) The reaction at pivot Aarrow_forwardFind the force P required to pull the 40-kg homogeneous roller with radius 720mm over the 90-mm curb.arrow_forward
- Each spring has an unstretched length of 2 in and a stiffness of fc = 330 N/m . 1. Determine the stretch in 04 spring required to hold the 18-kg crate in the equilibrium position shown. 2. Determine the stretch in OB spring required to hold the 18-kg crate in the equilibrium position shown.arrow_forwardThe cord shown in the figure is wrapped around a frictionless pulley and supports a block with a mass of 100 kg. (A) Clearly show the needed free-body diagram. (B) Calculation for determining of the horizontal support reaction at the pin support at A, using the FBD of entire frame. (C) Calculation for the determination of the pin reaction at C, using the free-body diagram of pulley at C. (D) Calculation for the determination of the vertical reaction of the pin support at A, using the free body diagram of member ABC. (E) Calculation for the determination horizontal and vertical reactions of the pin support at B, using the free body diagram of member ABC.arrow_forwardThe cord shown in the figure is wrapped around a frictionless pulley and supports a block with a mass of 100 kg.
