(Modeling) Roll of a Spacecraft The figure on the left below shows the three quantities that determine the motion of a spacecraft. A conventional three-dimensional spacecraft
y = r cos θ and z = r sin θ.
When the spacecraft performs a rotation, it is necessary to find the coordinates in the spacecraft system after the rotation takes place. For example, suppose the spacecraft undergoes roll through angle R. The coordinates (x, y, z) of point Q become (x', y', z'), the coordinates of the corresponding point Q'. In the new reference system, OQ' = r and. because the roll is around the x-axis and angle Y' OQ' = YOQ = θ.
x' = x, y' = r cos(θ + R), and z' = r sin(θ + R).

- Air Navigation Two planes leave an airport at approximately the same time. One plane flies 425 miles per hour at a bearing of 355, and the other plane flies 530 miles per hour at a bearing of 67 (see figure). Determine the distance between the planes after they fly for 2 hours.arrow_forwardSound Location Listening station A and listening station B are located at 3300,0 and 3300,0, respectively. Station A detects an explosion 4 seconds before station B. (Assume the coordinate system is measured in feet and sound travels at 1100 feet per second.) (a) Where did the explosion occur? (b) Station C is located at 3300,1100 and detects the explosion 1 second after station A. Find the coordinates of the explosion.arrow_forward
