Explanation of Solution

Using glass bottles as packaging leads to harmful impact on the environment. Glass bottles emits GHG gas in the environment that leads to greenhouse effect and depletion of ozon layer. On the other hand, the cost of manufacturing for using glass bottles will be low that will increase the efficiency in production.

Using aluminium bottles as packaging will have low consiquences on the environment as there will be low emission of GHG gas. The cost of production will be high in the case of aluminium.

Jupiter Game Company manufactures pocket electronic games.  Last year Jupiter sold 25,000 games at $25 each.  Total costs amounted to $525,000, of which $150,000 were considered fixed costs. In an attempt to improve its product, the company is considering replacing a component part that has a cost of $2.50 with a new and better part costing $4.50 per unit in the coming year.  A new machine also would be needed to increase plant capacity.  The machine would cost $18,000 with a useful life of six years and no salvage value.  The company uses straight-line depreciation on all plant assets.  (Ignore income taxes). 1) If management holds the sales price constant and makes the suggested changes, how many units of product must be sold in the coming year to break even?
Matthew Bailey, as manager of Designs by Bailey,is upgrading his CAD software. The high-performance (HP)software rents for $3,000 per month per workstation. Thestandard-performance (SP) software rents for $2,000 per monthper workstation. The productivity figures that he has availablesuggest that the HP software is faster for his kind of design. Therefore, with the HP software he will need five engineers and with the SP software he will need six. This translates into a vari-able cost of $200 per drawing for the HP system and $240 per drawing for the SP system. At his projected volume of 80 draw-ings per month, which system should he rent?
At the end of 20x1, Mejorar Company implemented a low-cost strategy to improve its competitive position. Its objective was to become the low-cost producer in its industry. A Balanced Scorecard was developed to guide the company toward this objective. To lower costs, Mejorar undertook a number of improvement activities such as JIT production, total quality management, and activity-based management. Now, after two years of operation, the president of Mejorar wants some assessment of the achievements. To help provide this assessment, the following information on one product has been gathered: Required:1. Compute the following measures for 20x1 and 20x3:a. Actual velocity and cycle timeb. Percentage of total revenue from new customers (assume one unit per customer)c. Percentage of very satisfied customers (assume each customer purchases one unit)d. Market sharee. Percentage change in actual product cost (for 20x3 only)f. Percentage change in days of inventory (for 20x3 only)g. Defective…
