  CaCO3(s)+ MgCO3(s)+ 4H+(aq) Ca2+(aq)+ Mg2+(aq) + 2CO2(g)+ 2H2O(l)

From the above equation it is clear that the hydrogen ions are reacted with carbonate ion to form carbon dioxide and water.  As the concentration of the hydrogen ion is reduced, the pH of the soil rises.

Plants such as rhododendrons, azaleas, and camellias require acidic soil for development and growth.  Addition of dolomite lime to the soil will increase the pH and hence the soil will not be suitable for these plants to grow because dolomite lime neutralizes the acid.
