Chapter 6, Problem 2AA
Summary Introduction

To describe: The outcome of the electron transport chain (ETC) in both chloroplasts and mitochondria.

Concept introduction: Mitochondria are found in both plant and animal cells and are the sites of oxidative phosphorylation. Chloroplasts are found in autotrophic organisms and are the sites of light-dependent and light-independent organisms. Chloroplasts and mitochondria have DNA present in them to synthesize a few proteins involved in few reactions inside them. An electron transport chain is found in the inner mitochondrial membrane in eukaryotes, where it acts as a site for oxidative phosphorylation, a process through which ATP is produced through the use of ATP synthase. The electron transport chain is also found in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast in photosynthetic bacteria.

Summary Introduction

To explain: The contribution of the proton gradient for ATP production in both chloroplasts and mitochondria.
