Introduction:

The skin color of an individual can be determined by both the hereditary as well as environmental and physiological factors. Melanin is produced in the epidermis layer of the skin. Melanin pigment is produced by melanocytes.

The production of melanin is done in the melanosomes in the epidermis layer. These melanocytes are present in the deepest layer of stratum basale in the epidermis. Melanin is responsible for imparting the skin color to an individual.
