Organophosphates (organic compounds containing phosphate groups) are commonly used as insecticides to improve crop yield. Organophosphates typically interfere with nerve signal transmission by inhibiting the enzymes that degrade transmitter molecules. They affect humans and other vertebrates as well as insects. Thus, the use of organophosphate pesticides poses some health risks. On the other hand, these molecules break down rapidly upon exposure to air and sunlight. As a consumer, what level of risk are you willing to accept in exchange for an abundant and affordable food supply? Explain your thinking.

- Which of the following is true of oxytocin? Multiple Choice The paraventricular nuclei are neurons where oxytocin is synthesized. Phenylalanine and arginine are the amino acids present in oxytocin. Oxytocin is essential for water conservation throughout life. Oxytocin is not a polypeptide.arrow_forwardIt is said that “You are what you eat.” The molecules that we consume undergo biochemical reactions to be converted into the biological molecules that help our cells to perform many important roles. Explain the importance of a structural biological molecule and how its structure relates to its function. Describe or illustrate how biochemical reactions produce the biological molecule. You may find it helpful to include a diagram of the biological molecule as part of your response.arrow_forwardWhich of the following are important biological functions of amino or acid derivatives of sugars? - The biomolecular interaction between protein receptors and ligands is similar to that of en- zymes and substrates, which depends in part on the shape of the protein. The shape of a protein, in turn, depends on the presence of appropriate chemical bonds in the protein. Many common medications function by altering the interactions between protein receptors and ligands, thereby interfering with the normal response of a cell to specific signals. Which of the following best describes a mechanism by which a drug might interfere with a normal cellular response? A B A medication causes the cell to become more permeable and unable to maintain the conditions that allow a normal response. с A medication interrupts the electron transport chain in a cell and makes it unable to syn- thesize sufficient ATP. D A medication enters the nucleus of a cell and alters the nucleic sequence for a specific receptor protein. A medication enters a target cell and acts as an inhibitor to an intercellular protein…arrow_forward1 2 3 4 description Cell membranes in both plants and animals are primarily made of this kind of molecule. This kind of molecule is usually a short-lived messenger molecule that conveys information about pain and inflammation. When circulating nutrients are insufficient to meet the body's energy needs, this type of molecule is broken down into smaller molecules that can be oxidized in cells to supply energy. This molecule is the starting point for the synthesis of many hormones, including the sex hormones testosterone and estradiol. - Nutrition has been one of the major problems that our country is facing most specially in this time of pandemic. As one of the trusted chemists of the Local Government Unit you were tasked to make an ideal meal plan that will serve as a “meal guide’ for families in preparing their daily meals. Your food pyramid must show the BIOMOLECULES of life for each level (GO, GROW, GLOW and FLOW foods). You must also show sample computations of carbohydrates that will take place once the specific food in the food group is digested, this is to show your audience an evidence on how important your food pyramid is. You must present your work using a multimedia presentation. In line with this task, the following must be prepared: list of biomolecules in your meal plan; (TEST 1) computation of chemical reaction that will take place once digestion happened; (TEST 2) narrative/description that will explain and convince your reader on the importance of your food pyramid. I do not understand it, steps leading to the correct answer would be helpful. Question: Bruce B. was deep in the woods and drank something he probably shouldn't have (why do people keep doing this?!?!). He's with a medical doctor and trained outdoorsman who tells him that, if he doesn't get treatment immediately, the toxins in the fluid will start to lock tropinin in place just in the sarcomeres in his digestive system. He asks you, an actual physiologist, what this means and what parts of digestion, secretion, absorption, and motility will be affected.
