The accumulation of excess electric charge on an object causes static electricity. Current in a circuit is due to flow of electrons from a lower voltage to a higher voltage.

Similarities between Current through a circuit and static discharge are as follows:

Differences between Current through a circuit and static discharge are as follows:

  1. Static electricity is caused by the accumulation of excess electrons on the surface of an object while current through a circuit is due to flow of electrons.

  3. Static electricity is usually uncontrolled while current in a circuit can be controlled.
