A virus is a disease-causing agent in many plants, animals, and other microscopic organisms. However, it cannot cause a disease unless it finds a host cell. The virus that is present extracellularly is not infectious. In this condition, a virus is called a virion that contains the viral genome enclosed in a layer called the capsid.
