Name Search
If you have downloaded this book’s source code, you will find the following files in this chapter’s folder:
- GirlNames.txt—This file contains a list of the 200 most popular names given to girls born in the United States from 2000 to 2009.
- BoyNames.txt—This file contains a list of the 200 most popular names given to boys born in the United States from 2000 to 2009.
Write a program that reads the contents of the two files into two separate arrays or

- a. The mean of a list of numbers is its arithmetic average. The median of a list is its middle value when the values are placed in order. For example, if a list contains 1, 4, 7, 8, and 10, then the mean is 6 and the median is 7. Write an application that allows you to enter five integers and displays the values, their mean, and their median. Save the files as MeanMedian.java. b. Revise the MeanMedian class so that the user can enter any number of values up to 20. If the list has an even number of values, the median is the numeric average of the values in the two middle positions. Save the file as MeanMedian2.java.arrow_forwardC++HurdleWords The HurdleWords class is mostly provided to you. HurdleWords is constructed from two files in the data/ folder: ● valid_guesses.txt (all 5 letter guesses considered to be valid words to guess), and ● valid_hurdles.txt (all words that may be selected to be the secret Hurdle.) ● Note: you may edit both text files if you’d like to add custom words to your game. HurdleWords stores all potential valid Hurdles from valid_hurdles.txt into a vector of strings (valid_hurdles_), and all valid guesses from valid_guesses.txt into an unordered set of strings (valid_guesses_). A set is simply a data structure that contains no duplicates and allows for a speedy lookup to check if a given element exists within the set. Because there are over 10,000 valid guesses, we store them in an unordered set to leverage their speediness, as you will need to check if a user-submitted guess is considered valid (i.e. their guess is considered a valid guess in the dictionary). You are responsible for…arrow_forwardHELLO. I NEED HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM FROM STARTING OUT WITH VISUAL C#, 5TH EDTION BY TONDY GADDIS. THIS IS FROM CHAPTER 13, PROGRAMMING PROBLEM #4. English Surnames In the student sample program files for this chapter, you will find a text file named surnames.txt. The file contains 14,674 English surnames. Each line in the file has one surname. Write a program that reads the names from the file into a List. The program should let the user perform the following searches: Find all the names that are longer than a specified length. Find all the names that are shorter than a specified length. Find all the names that begin with a specified string of characters. (For example, find all the names that begin with “All”.) Determine whether a specified name exists in the List.arrow_forward
- please code in pythonredact_file: This function takes a string filename. It writes a new file that has the same contentsas the argument, except that all of the phone numbers are redacted. Assume that the filename has onlyone period in it. The new filename is the same as the original with '_redacted' added before theperiod. For instance, if the input filename were 'myfile.txt', the output filename would be'myfile_redacted.txt'. Make sure you close your output file. The first hard task in this function is to make the output filename from the input filename that waspassed in. You can break it into two pieces by splitting on the dot or by using the index method andslicing. Then put it back together again using string concatenation. We are also working with files in this one. To open a file with a filename stored in the variable fname,in read mode use the open function as such: fp = open(fname). You will need to open the outputfile in write mode: open(fname, 'w'). Then you can traverse the…arrow_forwardTopical Information Use C++. This lab will give you practice using the String class we developed in lecture (as well as some more help with randomness and files). Program Information Allow the user the choice of displaying either a random line or a random word from a file they specify. Your menu should allow them to choose these options either from the number of the option or from the capitalized letter. For example, 1) display random Word 2) display random Line 3) Quit Should allow the user to select a random line display by either entering the number 2 or by entering a letter L (lower or upper case!).arrow_forward# NumberFun.py # using multiple functions. # copy/paste this program to run it first, you are supposed to use Google Chrome as Internet Browser for this course. # 1. calculate sum of the first n natural numbers, e.g.:1,2,3,... def totalN(n): totalN = 0 for i in range(1,n+1): totalN = totalN + i return totalN # 2. calculate sum of the cube of the first m natural numbers, e.g.:1,8,27,... ### After you define/write/complete the function totalMCube(m), remove the # sign as below to ENABLE next line of code ###def totalMCube(m):### YOUR TURN TO DEFINE/WRITE/COMPLETE function totalMCube(m) as below, based on totalN(n) # 3. call two functions defined previously within main() function def main(): print("This program computes the total and total of cubes of the first") print("N/M natural numbers.\n") n,m = input("Please enter a value for N and M: ").split(",") print("The total of the first", n, "natural numbers is", totalN(int(n)))### After you define/write/complete the function totalMCube(m),…arrow_forward
- 1994 Weekly Gas GraphIn the student sample programs for this book, you will find a text file named 1994_Weekly_Gas_Averages.txt. The file contains the average gas price for each week in the year 1994.(There are 52 lines in the file.) Using matplotlib, write a Python program that reads thecontents of the file then plots the data as either a line graph or a bar chart. Be sure to displaymeaningful labels along the X and Y axes, as well as the tick marks. (in python)arrow_forwardJAVA PROGRAM Homework #2. Chapter 7. PC #13. GirlNames.txt and BoyNames.txt contain a list of the 200 most popular names given to girls/boys born in the United States for the years 2000 through 2009. 2. Your application should use an array to hold the names. 3. The program should continue interacting with the user indefinitely unless the user chooses to quit by entering "QUIT" (should be case insensitive). 4.
