To describe:
The life cycle of a midlatitude cyclone.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Cyclone refers to an intense circular storm originating over a warm ocean. Cyclones are characterized by high winds, low atmospheric pressure, and heavy rains.
The life cycle of the midlatitude cyclone can be summarized in four steps that are described as follows:
- Cyclogenesis:
It is the initial stage of the life cycle of cyclone. In this stage, a specific boundary separates opposing fronts of warm and cold air.
- Mature stage:
At this stage, the wave created at the initial phase grows in the form of warm air and replaces space left behind by organizing an increase in warm and cold air fronts.
- Occluded stage:
In this stage, the denser colder front specifically catches up with the warm front.
- Dissolving stage:
It is the final stage and is characterized by closure of low-pressure pocket that is formed by the cold front boundary.
