Concept explainers
The functional and basic unit of heredity is called as genes. The genes carry information from one generation to another generation. The functional genes are responsible for gene expression in the cells. The expression of genes that is used to increase or decrease the expression of a particular gene is called as gene regulation.
Explanation of Solution
In the gene regulation, the information from the DNA is transferred from protein by two steps, which is transcription and translation. The transcription occurs with the help of many transcription factors and polymerase enzymes. During the transcription process, the mature mRNA (messenger RNA) is spliced by the 5’ cap and 3’ poly tail to form mRNA. The translation is initiated by the synthesis of protein when the mature mRNA moves inside the cytoplasm, the major role of translation is played by rRNA (ribosomal RNA), ribosomes, and tRNA (transfer RNA).
