Introduction:
The spinal nerves are the mixed nerves that arise from the spinal cord, unlike the cranial nerves that mainly arise from the brain. They act as a connection among the spine and rest of the body. Each spinal nerve has two roots, the dorsal root and the ventral root. These nerves perform sensory functions (bring information back from the area they serve), motor functions (carry information to the effector muscles), and autonomic functions (proper functioning of the internal organs).
