A fontanelle is a feature seen on the infant human skull which comprises of soft membranous gaps between the cranial bones that make up the calvaria of a fetus or an infant. The term fontanel is referred to since the pulsation of the infant's blood can be felt there. This is a fibrous bridge that separates the cranial bones at birth when the bones are not firmly joined together.
