When infants are unable to get rid of excess bilirubin, it gets accumulated in the blood and other tissues of the infant’s body. Symptoms appearing as a result of the condition include yellowing of skin, eyes, and other tissues.

Although there might be genetic factors for the transmission of hyperbilirubinemia, the condition can occur in infants due to the reasons as follows:
