Juan Hernandez, a Cuban athlete who visits the Unite States and Europe frequently, is allowed to return with a limited number of consumer items not generally available in Cuba. The items, which are carried in a duffle bag, cannot exceed a weight of 5 pounds. Once Juan is in Cuba, he sells the items at highly inflated prices. The three most popular items in Cuba are denim jeans, CD players, and CDs of U.S. rock groups. The weight and profit (in U.S. dollars) of each items are as follows.
Items Weight (lb) Profit ($)1. Denim jeans 2 902. CD players 3 1503. Compact discs 2 30
Juan wants to determine the combination of items he should pack in his duffel bag that will maximize his profit. The problem is an example of a type of integer programming known as a "knapsack" problem. Formulate and solve this problem.
Currently, an artist can sell 200 paintings every year at the price of $60.00 per painting. Each time he raises the price per painting by $20.00, he sells 55 fewer paintings every year.
Assume the artist will raise the price per painting x times.
The current price per painting is $60.00. After raising the price x times, each time by $20.00, the new price per painting will become 60+20x dollars.
Currently, he sells 200 paintings per year. It’s given that he will sell 55 fewer paintings each time he raises the price. After raising the price per painting x times, he will sell 200−5x paintings every year.
The artist’s income can be calculated by multiplying the number of paintings sold by the price per painting. If he raises the price per painting x times, his new yearly income can be modeled by the function:
f(x)=(60+20x)(200−5x)
where f(x) stands for his yearly income in dollars.
Answer the following questions:
1) To obtain a maximum income of the artist should set the…

The researchers will create four different concentrations of fungus mixtures: 0 milliliters per liter (ml/L),1.25 ml/L, 2.5 ml/L, and 3.75 ml/L. An equal number of the insects will be placed into 20 individual containers. The group of insects in each container will be sprayed with one of the four mixtures, and the researchers willrecord the number of insects that are still alive in each container one week after spraying. The equationp = −0.00035x + 5 (0 ≤ x ≤ 12,000) where p denotes the unit price in dollars and x is the number of discs demanded, relates the demand to the price. The total monthly cost (in dollars) for pressing and packaging x copies of this classical recording is given byC(x) = 600 + 2x − 0.00003x2 (0 ≤ x ≤ 20,000). To maximize its profits, how many copies should Phonola produce each month? Hint: The revenue is R(x) = px,and the profit is P(x) = R(x) − C(x).(Round your answer to the nearest whole number.)arrow_forwardIf we increase our food intake, we generally gain weight. Nutrition scientists can calculate the amount of weight gain that would be associated with a given increase in calories. In one study, 16 nonobese adults, aged 25 to 36 years, were fed 1000 calories per day in excess of the calories needed to maintain a stable body weight. The subjects maintained this diet for 8 weeks, so they consumed a total of 56,000 extra calories. According to theory, 3500 extra calories will translate into a weight gain of 1 pound. Therefore, we expect each of these subjects to gain 56,000/3500 = 16 pounds (lb). Here are the weights before and after the 8-week period, expressed in kilograms (kg). SCENARIO: You are working for a foreign government that has had a disease epidemic in a certain region of their country, leading to the deaths of three million children. The disease is spread by mosquitoes, and the only quick and sure way to stop the epidemic is to spray Chemical H on the jungle environments where the mosquitoes live. Spraying the chemical will lead to environmental issues for 20 years. Feel free to add details or assumptions left ambiguous in the prompt. Explain how you address the situation through a religious standpoint and can potentially advance a Biblical worldview.
