The adult vertebral column has three types of vertebrae, which are flexible. All vertebrae are structurally the same. The disc-shaped body is heavy in weight. Each of the vertebrae have a body centrum(anteriorly) and vertebral arch(posteriorly). Both of them enclose an opening, which is called the vertebral foramen. Theseforamina successively form the long vertebral canal, which allows the spinal cord to pass through it. These vertebrae are cervical vertebrae, thoracic vertebrae, and lumbar vertebrae.
