An automotive supplier is considering changing its electrical wire harness to save money. The idea is to replace a current 20-gauge wire with a 22-gauge wire. Because not all wires in the harness can be changed the new wire must work with the current wire splice process .To determine whether the new wire is compatible, random samples were selected and measured with a pull lest A pull test measures the force required to pull the spliced wires apart. The minimum pull force required by the customer is 20 pounds. Twenty observations of the forces needed for the current wire are

- A manufacturing company produces electric insulators. You define the variable of interest as the strength of the insulators. If the insulators break when in use, a short circuit is likely. To test the strength of the insulators, you carry out destructive testing to determine how much force is required to break the insulators. You measure force by observing how many pounds are applied to the insulator before it breaks. The accompanying data represent the amount of force required to break a sample of 30 insulators. a. Construct a 99% confidence interval for the population mean force.arrow_forwardA manufacturing company produces electric insulators. To determine this, 40 new-style golf balls and 40 original-style golf balls are randomly selected from the company’s production line on a specific day. The balls are then placed in a bag and shaken. A golf pro then selects a ball and hits it using a driver. The distance the ball travels is then measured. The bag is shaken again, and the golf pro selects another ball and hits it with the same driver. He continues this procedure until all 80 of the golf balls are hit. Which of the following is a benefit of having replication in the experiment? A)Repeating the experiment will allow the company to compare the distances traveled by the new type of golf ball from both experiments. B)Having a large number of each type of golf ball will allow for a good comparison of the differences in distances traveled for the two types of balls.…arrow_forward

(This measurement is helpful in diagnosing various lung disorders.) The two instruments considered were a Wright peak flow meter and a mini-Wright peak flow meter. Seventeen people participated in the study, and for each person air flow was measured once using the Wright meter and once using the mini-Wright meter. The Wright meter is thought to provide a better measure of air flow, but the mini-Wright meter is easier to transport and to use. Use of the mini-Wright meter could be recommended as long as there is not convincing evidence that the mean reading for the mini-Wright meter is different from the mean reading for Wright meter. For purposes of this exercise, you can assume that it is reasonable to consider the 17 people who participated in this study as representative of the population of interest.
